B1zQgSJxyKS__SL135_

The 30 Days, 30 Authors events continues with Olivia Williams Ball. She visited my blog before as one of my book spotlight for her Lydia & Jerome series. I’m happy to have her back on the blog to not only promote this series, but talk about what else she has in the works.

Now, without further ado, here’s Olivia! 🙂

author bio

I’m a native Californian, where I still live with my husband. I worked in the medical field for years. Writing was something that I had never imagined doing. But my husband insisted that I give it a try, since, over the years too many incidents that I have encountered turned into a story. So here I am, having fun creating stories. Which are mostly about romantic relationships between African American characters, although my next novel is a multicultural novel.

1.Besides writing, what else do you like to do?

I enjoy taking walks, though I don’t do it often enough, especially walking on the beach enjoying the view and the sound of the ocean. I also enjoy going to the movies, listening to music, reading and spending time with family

2. What inspired you to become a writer?

I felt my first spark of inspiration to write after reading one of Walter Mosely’s novels. During the entire read, I felt as if I was listening to an older cousin of mine talk about his life experiences of living in the Los Angeles area during the 50’s. But I also have to give credit to Terry McMillian. I find the writings by both of these gifted people to be so natural, which encouraged me to feel that I could also tell stories and enjoy doing so. Thus, I sat down and actually got started.

3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?

Although my debut novel was also self-published, to actually see it out there with my name on it was a wow feeling. An I really did that feeling. A sense of accomplishment.

4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

Still writing stories (with God’s grace) for others to relate to and enjoy with that satisfying feeling that everyone wants, once the story ends. And I expect to be better at the craft.

5. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?

Don’t think about it any longer. Just do it. Planning is always a good thing, but in my opinion, if you want to write stories you can do both. You can get started, plus do what you need to do to improve your writing skills. But don’t keep putting it off. There’re too many stories out there that are never told because too many people procrastinate. Just go for it.

EXCERPT

From Twists & Turns (Lydia & Jerome Book 2)

What does he want? Why is he calling? Hearing his voice is the last thing I need, just when I’m trying to make things work with Phillip. I worked hard to keep you from consuming my thoughts. I’m tired of craving your touch, your lips, and the feel of your strong arms around me.

I shivered, pausing over the phone. Finally, I picked it up and pushed the button to hear his message.

“Hi Lydia. This is Jerome. If it’s…if it’s all right… Well, you see, I don’t know your circumstances. But if it’s no problem, will you return my call?”

My circumstances… Yes, I’m with Phillip… What about your circumstances? I went back to the couch and flopped down. I huffed and puffed, regretting that I had played the message.

Hearing his voice brought, not only an ache in my stomach, but delicious memories came with it.

I got up and played the message again. Then I almost played it a third time, but caught myself. I was already breathless from hearing his voice the first time.
