The second book in the ‘Forever Love’ series explores the love story of LaToya and Simon. Their journey is different from Regina and Damien's story in ‘The Love We Have’, as they face struggles with their careers, parenting, and understanding each other while they work towards building a stronger relationship.

Here is an excerpt from the series, which is the prologue from LaToya’s POV:

September 2035

“I can’t believe this is happening.”

I rushed past several students as I sped toward my dorm building at Smith University. I didn’t want to talk to anyone after that spectacle I just endured with Damien. I shouldn’t be too upset about it; I brought it on myself, but it still didn’t hurt any less. Damien and I had a great relationship, but I ruined it because I wanted to have fun with his brother…

Typical LaToya. Always jumping into things without thinking.

I decided to take a detour to the campus coffee house when I ran smack into someone. I knew it was a guy because his cologne smelled like pine and cedar. God, it smelled good.

“Watch where you’re going!” he exclaimed.

I looked up, seeing the face of the scent, which didn’t disappoint. He was fine with deep brown eyes, smooth pecan skin, curly black hair cut into a nice fade, and a pretty firm chest as my face almost collided with it.

I couldn’t help but smile while taking a deep breath. “You’re right. I wasn’t paying attention.”

“It probably was me who wasn’t. You’re the second person I bumped into within the past few weeks.”

“Oh, so it is your fault since you’re clumsy.”

The guy chuckled. “You got jokes.”

“It’s not a joke; more like a statement.”

“What’s your excuse since you still weren’t paying attention.”

“I have a lot going on.”

“It can’t be about your classes since they barely started.”

“It’s more of a relationship issue.”

He slowly nodded. “Which I’m sure you don’t want to talk about.”

“You’re so correct.”

“We don’t have to. But I do want to know your name.”

“LaToya,” I said while extending my hand.

“Simon. Nice to meet you,” he said. We slowly shook hands as he continued staring into my eyes.

“For what it’s worth, you shouldn’t be too sad about it. Whatever it is, either talk it out or let it go.  That’s the motto my parents gave me.”

“I doubt it if he wants to talk to me.”

“Make him if he’s worth it. If not, then move around to someone else.”

“Like whom? You?”

“I would say yes if I didn’t have a girlfriend.”

I scoffed. “Wow, you’re flirting with me when you have a girlfriend?”

“Technically, I wasn’t flirting. I was only being nice.”

“If you say so,” I said. I was about to go inside when Simon blocked the door.

“But I would like for us to become friends. There’s nothing wrong with that, is it?”

I glanced at him and shook my head. “No, thank you. I have enough guy troubles, and I don’t buy the ‘we can only be friends’ bit.”

“I was being serious.”

“So was I.” I opened the door and turned to stare at him.

“Maybe we’ll see each other again. Smith is a close-knit community.”

“Indeed, it is.”

I smiled before walking inside. Maybe today didn’t turn out so bad. Too bad he’s involved.

What am I thinking? I shouldn’t be looking at anyone, let alone thinking about getting into another relationship. Every relationship I’d been in had been a complete failure, so who is to say if the next one would be great?

I sighed, realizing that maybe relationships weren’t in the cards for me…
