Welcome to the weekend! I hope you’re excited for the weekend as much as I am. Not only that, but we’re at #15 of The Book Catalog, which is “A Chance At Love”!
"A Chance at Love" is the second book in the "In Love With My Best Friend" series. It follows Tia and Charles as they navigate their developing relationship. Initially, they start as friends, but as the story unfolds, it becomes evident that they have had feelings for each other since high school. As The two struggled to admit their feelings while dealing with personal trauma, and through a few other relationships, they realized they were meant for each other.
This story holds a significant bond for me because this was my very first #1 best-seller on Amazon in two catagories: African-American Romance and Women’s Fiction.
When I wrote this story, I didn't expect it to become as popular as it did. I was simply writing about two people who struggled to admit their feelings for each other. However, I didn’t realize the significant impact the story would have on readers. This was clearly expressed through their reviews and emails, where many shared their personal experiences with me. To me, that was extremely profound and I was grateful to be able to write a story about realisitc elements.
I believe the scene where Tia and Charles played strip Twister contributed significantly to the book's success.
Regardless of the reason, I am humbled and grateful that this book is a best-seller, which is why I chose “A Chance At Love” as one of my top favorites.
If you have not read “A Chance At Love”, it is available on all major platforms, but I do have the link to Amazon below:
Here is the scene between Tia and Charles playing strip Twister from Tia’s point of view. Enjoy!
After being publicly humiliated at Drinks Houston, it was time to call it a night. Of course, I was able to sober up a little, and now had a little buzz, but Camille, on the other hand, was completely hammered.
“I keep saying Camille is a lightweight when it comes to drinking,” Charles said as he let me out of Trevor’s BMW.
We looked at Camille, who was completely passed out in the passenger seat.
“What can I say, she’s not a drinker,” Trevor said.
“Well, I know you’ll take care of her,” I said.
“Of course. See y’all later.” We waved to Trevor as he left the parking lot, leaving Charles and I alone.
We looked at each other, knowing once we went inside, all bets were off.
“I guess we better go inside,” I said softly, trying hard not to be nervous.
Charles noticed the hesitant look on my face as he walked beside me. “You sure you don’t want to get some sleep? I promise, we can cuddle or something,” he said, waiting for me to open the door.
An idea popped into my head as I went through the threshold.
“We can, but first, I want to do something fun,” I said.
“I think we had enough fun for tonight,” Charles said, sitting down on the couch.
I ran into my room, frantically searching for my prized possession. The thing I loved to do growing up, and even now, but with a bit of a twist. I quickly changed out of my outfit, putting on a pair of blue sweats, a white tank top and my fuzzy blue and white socks.
I walked back into the room, holding the item behind my back. Charles looked at me with a confused expression.
“You know, I could have helped you change.”
“I’m sure, but I had to get comfortable to play this,” I said, holding up the item to Charles.
“You want to play Twister? I don’t think that’s a good idea right now.”
“Oh, come on; it’ll be fun. Besides, didn’t you mention you wanted to do something spontaneous?”
“Yeah, before we became too drunk to stand.”
“Speak for yourself. As you can see, I’m fine, and I want to play, so let’s play.”
Charles sighed and got up from the couch.
“Besides, you’re going to love my version of Twister,” I said.
I leaned into Charles and gave him a kiss on his neck. I setup the game, putting the mat and spinner in the open space by the sofa. I stood up and noticed Charles staring at me.
“You know I haven’t played Twister since I was nine.”
“Oh really? So I guess you’ve never played strip Twister.”
Charles raised his eyebrow as he continued staring at me.
“Seriously?”
“Yeah. Of course, the winner has to have the most clothing on and hasn’t fallen. So you’re game?”
“You’re just trying to get me naked, aren’t you?” Charles asked.
“Trust me, I wouldn’t need a game to do that,” I said.
“Alright then, let’s do it. But I must warn you, I may be a little rusty with the game, considering the state I’m in.”
“Well, that’s what makes it even more interesting. So should we call on who’s going first?” I asked and held up a quarter.
“You can go first; I’m sure I’ll have you out of your clothes real soon,” he said, giving me a panty-dropping grin.
I smiled and gave the spinner a huge spin, waiting to see what color it would land on.
“Oh, and I must tell you that whenever it goes to red, you have to take off a piece of clothing.”
“Cool. You’re right, this will be interesting.”
The spinner landed on left foot green. I quickly went over to the mat, placing my foot onto the circle.
Charles went over and gave his spin, which landed directly on red. “Left hand red,” he said. “I wonder what item you’re going to take off,” I said.
Charles smiled as he pulled off a sock and threw it on the floor. “Really?”
“You didn’t think I was going for the big item, did you?” he asked. He went over to the mat and placed his hand on the red circle.
After a few minutes of play, I was thinking maybe Charles was right about playing while drunk. I was starting to feel some sort of effect as I was sprawled backwards, trying not to fall. Since we’ve been playing, I only landed on red once, and I carefully took off a sock.
Charles on the other hand, hasn’t been so lucky. Now, he was only in his boxers, wondering how long it would take him to be completely naked.
“Are you ready to give up?” I asked.
I looked at him struggling to stay on the mat, but I knew he’d eventually fall. “I can stay like this forever. You, on the other hand, look like you’re ready to pass out,” he said.
I carefully reached for the spinner, trying not to fall on my side as I used my foot to spin. The pointer landed on green again, and I had to move my foot over towards Charles.
I was halfway onto the circle when I fell on my butt, causing him to fall off the mat and onto the floor.
“I guess we both lost,” he said while laughing.
I burst out laughing as he pulled me over to him. I straddled his waist and moved my hand down his chest.
“I have to admit, that was fun.”
“It was, especially since I got you out of your clothes,” I said, smiling.
“Well, I can still get you out of yours,” he said, sliding my tank strap down.
I leaned forward, putting my lips to his and felt his tongue go into my mouth. He grabbed my butt while laying me down on the mat.
I was completely sober now as Charles moved his hand up my leg, massaging my skin and kissing my chest.
“Remember what I said earlier about finishing what we started?” he asked.
“Yes.”
“I think we need to pick up where we left off. Don’t you agree?”
“Very.”
Check back tomorrow as we’re making progress on The Book Catalog with #14, which is also from the In Love With My Best Friend series.
Until next time, happy reading! :-)
