Hi everyone! It’s the day before Christmas Eve, and I was wondering how are you spending your day? Hopefully by catching up on each author during the 31 Days, 31 Authors event! There have been so many wonderful authors who have joined this event as well as each of them giving a little background to how they first started writing.
When I first read, Maybe Baby by Kim Golden, I was instantly hooked to Laney and Mads’ story. Not only was it a bit unpredictable, but it had all of the elements of finding true love. Yes, they had their problems, but what relationship doesn’t? That’s why I loved their relationship in this story as well as Maybe Tonight and Maybe Forever. That’s why I’m really excited to have Kim be apart of this event, because I’m literally a fan!
Now, here’s Kim! 🙂
Kim Golden was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1995, she left the US and moved to Sweden for love with a capital L with her gorgeous Swede. She writes stories for people who know that love comes in every color.
When she isn’t writing fiction, she writes copy about perfume and lipstick for a Swedish cosmetics firm. Or -since she loves to travel- you might find her enjoying good food, wine and company in places like Italy, Spain or her favorite hideaways in Copenhagen and southern Sweden.
1. Besides writing, what else do you like to do?
When I’m not writing, I love reading, travelling, taking walks, doing yoga. But most of all, I love enjoying good food and wine. I am such a foodie. 🙂 Give me a bowl of mushroom and black truffle risotto or a slice of Sacher torte and I am in seventh heaven.
2. What inspired you to become an author?
I think I always wanted to be an author. I’ve loved writing since I was a child. I used to write stories and send them to my grandmother, who lived in Virginia. And since I also loved reading, writing my own books was a natural step. I studied creative writing in school and had a few short stories published. In 2012, I began self-publishing and I haven’t stopped since. 🙂
3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?
I was excited. It didn’t matter that I was publishing it myself, I was excited that I’d achieved my goal. I still get that sense of excitement every time I publish something.
4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I would love to be writing full-time, maybe living in a farmhouse here in Sweden or in Italy. And I’ll have published 6-7 novels and a few novellas.
5. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?
If you’re going to be an author, you have to be willing to make sacrifices–sacrifice sleep to get your writing time, sacrifice social life sometimes to give more time to your writing…You need to get those writing hours in. And it’s not easy. If you want something easy, then writing is not the thing to do. And a lot of people think there are short cuts–but there aren’t any. You need to give it your everything.

Here’s an excerpt from Maybe Tomorrow:
“Well, it’s just us here…but it’s not a scary film so we should be okay.”
Once the film started, she was so lost in it, I think she forgot I was even there. I couldn’t blame her. The story of a war photographer whose family can no longer accept the danger of her work, and the emotional maelstrom it sets off when she puts one of her children at risk, was so compelling that I was too caught up in it to remember to even eat my popcorn.
Halfway through the film, Eddy shifted in her seat and nestled into me so that her head rested on my shoulder. On the screen, a love scene unfolded between Juliette Binoche and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as they grappled with their issues and the weight of their love for one another. And it hit me–soon Eddy would leave. She’d already made it clear she was returning to New York once Laney and Mads were back from their honeymoon. These weeks in Copenhagen were only a brief respite until she could have access to her apartment in New York. I wanted to convince her to stay despite how fleeting whatever we had was. I was no different from the husband on screen, trying to persuade his wanderlust wife to stay. The only difference was there was nothing to hold Eddy here. And I knew that the only thing we had were these days together. Whatever was going on between us–was it a fling? Were we simply friends?
When she sighed, I turned my head just enough to capture her lips with mine. I cupped her cheek with my palm and held her there. Even in the dark cinema I could see her shining eyes, the questioning they held…but then her hand crept up to mine and her fingers slid into the space mine left and it felt like in that moment we made a promise to one another.
