LLH: Book 2 Chapter 3

Chapter 3 from LLH: Book 2..

I have to do something. Riana thought as she looked at the two.

She went over to Shawn, giving him a passionate kiss. While his back was turned from Marcus, Riana took a peek at him, who was giving a harsh look at her. She didn’t know why he was getting upset because she was kissing her boyfriend, which was also his brother.

Shawn pulled away from her and smiled.

“That was unexpected.”

“It definitely was.” Marcus said, folding his arms across his chest.

“So, what did I interrupt?” Shawn asked.

Nothing, in fact, I stopped by to give you this.” Riana said, handing a gift bag to him.

“What is this?” he asked, taking a peek inside.

“I wanted to give you something for your first day at Channel 2.” she said, giving a bright smile. “You didn’t have to do this.”

“I wanted to; now, open it.”

Shawn smiled and pulled out his present. It was the story they done in Professor Williams’ class, inside of a black glossy frame. He wrapped his arms around Riana and gave her a huge hug.

“Thanks, baby.”

“You’re welcome. This is just the beginning of your career. I’m so proud of you.”

Shawn leaned over and gave Riana another kiss, which led her to whimper softly.

“I don’t think you need to do that in front of my brother.” he said against her ear.

“Couldn’t help it.” she whispered.

The two looked over at Marcus, who was out of the room.

“Oh well, I guess he figured we needed some alone time.”

“Yeah, I guess so.”

Shawn noticed the worried look on her face, which led him to put his arms around her.

“I promise, we will still have all the time in the world to be together. Don’t doubt for a second that we won’t, okay?”

“I know, it’s just that everyone’s lives are going in different directions. You starting your internship, Monica and Donnell moved in together, Cheryl has her own place; it just seems kind of surreal that we’re all living as adults.”

“Yeah, but we had to eventually, right?”

“Yeah,”

Shawn took Riana’s hand.

“Well, I have to head to class. You want to walk out with me?”

“Of course.”

She looked towards Marcus’ room. He was standing by the door, staring at her. She quickly turned away, leaving behind the notion that she could be having some sort of feelings for her boyfriend’s brother.

*** Cheryl ran into Patrick’s still exhausted from her early morning class. She took a 20 minute nap before arriving, but that wasn’t enough. She glanced over and saw Devin sitting at a booth, which conveniently was her station. She put her apron on and walked over to the booth.

“I would think that you’re stalking me since I just saw you an hour ago.” she said.

“Please, girl, this is a popular establishment. Besides, I didn’t know you were working today.”

“What day I’m not working?” she asked, filling his glass with water.

“Did you want to order?”

“I’ll have a slice of chocolate cake.” he said, staring at Cheryl.

“Is it a little early for dessert?”

“Not really, besides this is what I mainly come here for. I’m pretty sure you’ve tried it.”

“Of course; it’s the best.”

Devin looked at Cheryl and smiled.

“You have a really pretty smile.”

Cheryl blushed as she wrote down his order.

“I’ll be back with your cake.”

“Okay.”

She went to the counter to place the order when she saw Chris walking in. She smiled as she went over to him.

“Hey, beautiful.” he said, giving her a kiss on the cheek.

“Hey. What brings you by? Don’t you have a class right now?”

“The professor let us out early.”

He looked over at Devin, who was still staring at Cheryl.

“Why he staring at you?”

“Who, Devin? I have A&P with him. He’s harmless, I think.”

“Oh really. From what I know of him, he’s a jerk.”

“Why is that?”

“Shawn and I went to high school with him. He was always into something. Was even suspended a couple of times. He was mainly in trouble for selling drugs to classmates.”

“What type of drugs?”

“I don’t know; weed mostly. I know a lot of kids were buying energy pills to stay awake to study.”

“Can anyone get those over the counter?”

“I think the ones he was selling were a little stronger than caffeine.”

“How was he able to get prescription drugs?”

“His dad is a pharmacist.”

“Oh.”

“All I can say is keep your distance from him. He’s bad news.”

“What if I can’t? We’re lab partners.”

“Well, find someone else.”

“I can’t; we were assigned.”

Chris looked at her and sighed. Cheryl stared at him. Even though the two already agreed to be partners, the professor did in fact assign them together since they were sitting by each other.

“Fine, but just be careful.”

“I can handle myself.”

“I know you can, but if he does get out of line, let me know, okay.”

“I will.”

Chris kissed her again before leaving the restaurant.

Cheryl sighed, watching the door close. She turned towards Devin’s booth. He winked at her and smiled. Cheryl shook her head, wondering what she was getting herself into.

*** Monica walked into her apartment and sighed. After her class, all she wanted to do was sleep. She looked towards the couch, which made her irritated.

“Really, Donnell.” she said to herself.

She went to it, picking up his clothes and shoes, which were in the middle of the floor. She went to the bedroom, opening the door with a surprise look on her face.

The area was turned into a wonderland, as candles were displayed throughout the room, rose petals were centered in the middle of the floor and on the bed, and soft jazz music playing in the background.

Donnell walked from the bathroom, carrying a long stem red rose and had a huge smile on his face.

“Hi.” he said.

“Hi.” she repeated, going over to him.

“I know this is a huge adjustment for you, living with someone, especially a man, so that’s why I wanted to do what I can to make you happy.”

Monica looked at Donnell with tears in her eyes.

“I love you.”

“I love you too, Donnell.”

He went up to her, giving her a kiss. Although Monica knew she had her issues with Donnell, she knew he was only looking out for her. That’s why she will hold on to him as long as she can.
