LLH: Book 2 Chapters 9 & 10

Hope everyone is having a great day so far!! I know I mentioned a new chapter will be posted everyday, but unfortunately, I wasn’t on my computer yesterday; so to make up for it, I’m posting chapters 9 & 10. Enjoy!!!

Chapter 9

After sitting in the lounge for a few minutes, Cheryl and Chris headed to their next class when the two noticed Devin on the quad talking to two girls. Cheryl became uneasy as she noticed the look Chris was giving Devin. She knew this wasn’t going to be a normal conversation if the two saw each other.

Chris began to walk over to Devin when Cheryl touched his shoulder.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m going to have a nice conversation with Devin.”

“You don’t have to, Chris. Everything is fine.”

“I’m going to tell him to know his place, that’s all.”

“Chris, I can handle him, so you don’t have to worry.”

“I know, but I also want to remind him not to step out of line.” he said.

Devin gave a cocky smile once Chris approached him.

“Chris. I knew you went here, but haven’t seen you around campus.”

“Cut the bullshit, Marshall. I know you and Cheryl are lab partners, so let’s get one thing straight. If you try to push your way on her, I will kick your ass.”

“Is that a threat? Cheryl is a grown woman, so I don’t think she needs you to protect her.”

Cheryl sighed, realizing she needed to do something fast.

“Let’s go, Chris.”

“Call it anyway you want to, but just keep your distance from her. In fact, maybe I need to be present for your study sessions.”

“Chris, stop.” Cheryl hissed.

Devin stepped up to Chris and laughed.

“Are you scared that your girl would rather be with me? Is that’s why you’re so protective of her?”

Chris shoved him. Before Devin could retaliate, Cheryl stepped in between the two.

“Stop it, you two!”

Chris shook his head and walked away from them. Cheryl glanced at Devin.

“I need to talk to you, but not now. Just come to my place at 2.” she whispered.

“You sure your boyfriend won’t object to that.”

“He’ll be in class then.”

“Fine.” he said. He looked at Chris, who was pacing with a heated expression on his face.

Cheryl went over to him and stared at him.

“I can’t believe you just did that.”

“What? The guy is a jerk.”

“You had no right to go off on him like that. He didn’t do anything wrong.”

“Are you defending him?”

“I’m just saying you need to choose your battles and that was not one of them.”

“Is something going on with you two? What did you say to him over there?”

“So you’re interrogating me now?”

“Cheryl, I just want you to be careful. I don’t know what he’s capable of and I don’t want you to get into something that might have consequences later.”

“You should trust me to make valid judgments. Devin and I are lab partners, nothing more. Whatever thoughts you have you should let them go.”

Chris sighed and gave Cheryl a kiss.

“I know. I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay.”

“When I asked about your behavior earlier, I automatically thought about Devin. I thought he might have given you something.”

“Believe me when I say I would never take anything. I know I’m doing a lot with school and working, but that’s something I would never do.” “I know, baby.”

He wrapped his arms around her, which made the nerves Cheryl had go full throttle. Chris already knew something was wrong. How long would it be before he knew the entire truth?

*** Monica walked into her apartment hoping Donnell was still there. Britney was right; she has to find a way to express her feelings about everything that was going on.

Donnell walked out of the bedroom with a smile.

“Hey. I thought you were going to class?”

“I am, but I want to talk to you before you head to work.”

“What’s wrong?” he asked, immediately sitting down on the couch.

Monica sat beside him and placed his hand in hers.

“I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately.”

“About?”

“Us.”

Donnell gently took his hand away from her and sighed.

“I’ve asked you if something was wrong and you denied it.”

“Because I didn’t know how to tell you. Lately, I’ve been feeling suffocated around you. Although I appreciate the concern you have after what happened, I’m not some delicate flower that you have to constantly nurture.”

“I was doing everything to make you feel better about what happened. I know it took a toll on you.”

“And I’m grateful for that, but you can’t keep protecting me. What happened was no one fault. We have to let go and move on.” “Why didn’t you tell me this before?”

“I was scared to how you would react.”

“Mon, you don’t have to feel scared or worried to tell me your feelings. Isn’t that one of the things we both agreed we should work on together?”

“I know, but…”

“No buts. Whatever concerns you have you need to tell me. Just like I should do the same for you. We will continue to have issues if we don’t communicate.”

“I know that now.”

“For now on, please tell me what you’re thinking, okay.”

“I will.”

He leaned to her, giving her a kiss before getting up.

“I better go. I’ll see you later, okay.”

“Have a good day at work.”

Donnell smiled, grabbed his keys from the counter and headed to the door.

Once it was closed, Monica sighed. Although she told Donnell what she was feeling, she didn’t give him the full story. She still felt unsure about living with him, which she knew would be another problem she would have to deal with.

Chapter 10

Once Shawn held her for a few minutes, Riana still felt guilty about what happened. She still couldn’t believe she was thinking about Marcus while making love with Shawn. That was pretty low, which made her feel sick to her stomach.

The two were in her bedroom with their food when Shawn began to stare at her. She looked at him and blushed.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing, expect you look exceptionally beautiful right now.”

She blushed again and Shawn kissed her cheek.

“How’s your internship going?”

“It’s going well so far. I’m learning a lot in a short period of time.”

“That’s good to know. How is your partner, Dominique?” she asked while taking a bite of a potato skin.

“She’s cool, but she does flirt a lot.”

Riana put down her food and stared at Shawn.

“What? She’s flirting with you.”

“Baby, you have nothing to worry about. I made it loud and clear that she doesn’t have a chance with me.”

“That doesn’t stop some women.”

“Well, she’s going to have to, because you are the only woman I want to be with.” he said. He took the Styrofoam plate from Riana and set it on the nightstand.

“And it’s going to stay that way, right?” she asked while lying down on the bed.

“You know it.” he said, lying on top of her.

The two began to kiss when his phone started to ring. He ignored it as he kissed her chest. The phone rang again, which made Riana irritated.

“You probably need to answer that.”

Shawn sighed and reached for it on the nightstand.

“Hey bro. What do you want, I’m kind of busy.” he said, giving Riana a sexy grin.

She tried to return a smile of her own, but became nervous once Shawn mentioned Marcus.

“Yes, I know that. I’ll be there later. Right now, I’m spending time with my girl.”

Riana cringed when Shawn said those words. Now Marcus will know what they were doing. She doesn’t know why she was feeling guilty, but she felt as if she was betraying him in some way.

“Bye, bro.” he said, hanging up the phone. He stared into her eyes and smiled.

“Where were we?”

He kissed her, which made the uneasy feeling she had quickly disappeared. She started to realize that she has feelings for both Shawn and Marcus. She wanted to be with the both of them, which was a little creepy, but kind of a turn on.

“What did Marcus want?” Riana whispered.

“Nothing major. Just asked to borrow my Jordan’s, but I told him I’ll look for them since he doesn’t know how to put things back where they were.”

“Oh. Him and Britney going out later?”

“I guess, I don’t know. Why so many questions?” he asked, kissing her neck.

“Just wondering, that’s all.”

“Why don’t we stop talking about my brother and focus on our time together.” he said. He slowly touched her clit, which had her moaning.

“I knew that would work.” he said, kissing her lips.

Riana didn’t know what to do about her feelings for both of the Walker brothers; but right now, she was going to enjoy the time she was spending with one of them.

*** After her class was let out early, Cheryl rushed to her apartment to wait on Devin. She didn’t know what the hell he given her, but she needed to know immediately.

She approached her doorstep to see him standing by it, giving her an intense stare.

“Why are you giving me that look?” she asked.

“Because I’m still heated about earlier. Your boyfriend shouldn’t have come at me like that.”

“I already apologized for that and even defended you to him. What more do you want?”

Devin sighed while waiting for Cheryl to open the door. The two walked inside and she immediately closed and locked it.

“I should be upset at you with what you given me. I don’t know what the hell it was, but I was having laughing fits all day.”

“At least it wore off.” he said and sat down on the couch.

“What did you give me, Devin?”

“It was an energy pill. For a second there, I thought I gave you something a little stronger, but I checked and it was definitely Vivarin.”

Cheryl sat down beside him.

“I’m pretty sure laughing is not one of the side effects?”

“No, but your body probably needed time to adjust. I think it was you who reacted to the pill a little differently than most.”

“What does that mean?”

“Based on what you have told me, you never taken anything besides aspirin and cold medicine. Your body wasn’t used to the pill, so it reacted definitely. Once you start taking it more, it will adjust and you won’t have those effects again.”

“I don’t know if I’ll take anymore.”

“The main concern is did it do the job. Do you have more energy?”

Cheryl glanced at him and sighed.

“Yes.”

“So, my work here is done. Are you still mad at me?” he asked, leaning closer to her.

“No, but I’m wondering why you’re so close to me?”

“Because Chris was right. He should keep an eye on me.” he said. He gently caressed Cheryl’s cheek as he gave her a passionate kiss. Cheryl didn’t know what to do as his tongue touched hers and his hand was on her back. She had to admit, the kiss was nice.

Devin pulled away and smiled.

“I’m sorry, but I wanted to do that from the first moment I’d laid eyes on you. “

“Devin…”

“I won’t do it again; I just needed to touch those lips, even if it was just for one time.”

Cheryl was still shock over what he just did. She touched her lips, wishing he was still kissing her.

“Don’t worry about it.” she said, getting up and going to the kitchen.

“I really hope there won’t be any awkwardness between us. I know you have a man and I respect that. We’ll just be lab partners and maybe hang out every now and then.”

She nodded as she walked back in the living room with a bottle of water.

“That’s fine.”

“Unless you want us to be more.”

“I barely know you, Devin. There is one thing though.”

He stared at her as she went to him.

“I still would like more pills, please. I think it will help me cope with school and work.”

“Cheryl, I don’t know now.”

“Please. I don’t know how I’m going to be able to get through the semester. Just after minutes of taking that pill, I had more energy compared to a couple days of sleep. You would be doing a great deal if you did.”

Devin rubbed his chin and sighed.

“I’ll see what I can do, but it’s going to have to cost you.”

“How much?”

“I don’t want money.” he said while putting his hand around her waist.

“What the hell? If it’s what I’m thinking, then the answer is no!” Cheryl exclaimed, pulling away from Devin.

“That’s not what I was going to ask. What type of person do you think I am?”

“I don’t know you, so of course I’m going to assume that.”

“I’m not that type of person, Cheryl. I just wanted to go out on a date. Dinner and a movie, that’s all.”

She sighed.

“Fine, but don’t expect dessert afterwards.”

“Not even if it’s chocolate cake?”

She laughed.

“Funny. You know what I meant.”

“I know, and believe me, I won’t try anything. Like I said, I respect you and your relationship.”

“Okay.”

“I’ll pick you up around 8. Wear something dressy causal.” he said.

He left, leaving Cheryl still in shock. She already promised Chris she was going to spend the evening with him. In order to get what she wanted, she has to go on the date.

“This is something I have to do.”
